The psychology behind digitalisation

Maarten Glaser · · updated · 1 min read

You develop an application or a website, and then the users still have to get the most out of it. That isn’t always easy. UX research or not: if users push back for whatever reason, your solution gets used partly or not at all.

That’s why we look at the person behind the user of your solution. We treat bringing an application or website into use as an (organisational) change. Do users know the vision behind your solution, and why it matters? Do they feel competent enough to work with it? Those are questions you can ask yourself along the way. They help you understand how a newly built solution can be put to good use.

We support organisations with complex questions about collaboration, business growth or reorganisation. More and more often we’re also asked for advice on how employees will actually use digitalisation. Research into the introduction of AI shows why that’s the right question: whether employees use AI and see it as an improvement depends mostly on whether their own manager visibly backs it. Our change approach gives that adoption an extra push. If you want to improve adoption in your own organisation, it pays to know more about the psychology behind digitalisation. We keep track of what research and practice publish on adoption on Leap Trends.

In the psychology behind digitalisation we look at five elements that together drive a successful change. That applies to digitalisation too. We’re happy to talk through what those five elements look like, and how to make them work for you without much effort, in a conversation.
