About Leap Company

We look beyond the solution you ask for.

With innovative tools.

Leap Company is an organisational development consultancy. We help boards, directors and managers reach their goals together with their team or organisation: by working together better, making better use of processes and tools, and working smarter.

We look at an organisation as a whole, with a psychologist’s eye and an eye for how it is organised: how people work together, how the work is arranged and which technology helps. Our own tools quickly show what is going on inside an organisation. That way we get to the heart of the matter together sooner, and the solution comes faster.

Connection
After a first conversation we often hear: 'You really got what I meant.' That is because we are curious and read between the lines. Once a project is under way, we do the same: we bring people on board instead of telling them from the sidelines what to do.
Partnership
We work with our clients as equals. Forget the classic client and supplier relationship. We work side by side as two parties who want to get something done, and who are both essential to getting there.
Humour
Professional doesn’t have to mean dull. A stolen banana in a team game suddenly makes it much easier to talk about who does more than their share. A laugh helps sensitive subjects come up, and keeps the energy in the room.
Ambition
Anything is possible. Once we start working together, we soon see what else becomes possible. One thing leads to another, and before you know it we spot new ways to make the impact bigger or smarter. That gets us quite excited. Sometimes a little too excited, and then we run a few steps ahead of you. Just rein us in. But maybe, like us, you will suddenly see what else is possible. Then we go for it.
Creativity
We don’t deliver reams of text or off-the-shelf workshops. For every step we look for a format that works for everyone, and we keep reinventing the way we work. That is where our own tools come from.
What we stand for

People, structure and technology move together.

Organisational problems rarely have a single cause, so they rarely have a single solution. Clients often call with the answer already in mind: more ownership, say, or a different structure. We start by asking why this is a problem for the organisation, and what you actually want to achieve.

That is why we look beyond the solution you ask for: at behaviour, leadership, roles and decisions, and at what technology makes possible. Usually the answer is a combination, and that is where Leap works: in how those pieces fit together. So we never fall in love with the solution we walk in with, nor with the one you may already have in mind. It may be the right one. Or something else may be holding back the change you want.

How we work

Slowing down to speed up. Look before you leap.

When an assignment starts, there is no training, workshop or new structure waiting in the wings. First we want to be clear about what you want to achieve and what is stopping you today. We look at the whole picture: how the organisation is set up, how people work together, the part leadership plays and what technology makes possible.

We want the whole organisation at the table. Talk to three managers and you hear one perspective. The real insight lies in everyone’s view of what works and what doesn’t. We gather those views in no time, with tools we build for each question. Not a quick survey in Google Forms. If the issue is mandate, it might be an app that asks everyone how decisions really get made today. That gives us a broad picture fast, without weeks of interviews. So we sit down with you sooner for the conversation that matters, which saves your diaries too.

We never hand over a tool and walk away.

A tool shows patterns. What they mean only becomes clear in the context of your organisation, and that is where we come in.

With that insight, we decide together what is needed. A training course may turn out to be the right fit after all. But as part of the change, not as the starting point.

Who we are

Laura and Maarten.

An organisational psychologist and an organisational developer. Here’s where we come from, and what we love.

Portrait of Laura Stam

Laura Stam

Organisational psychologist & organisational consultant

I love a bit of friction in a team, methods backed by science, and games that help people have the difficult conversation.

I love it when there’s friction in a team. I’m curious about what’s behind it. Why do people get stuck? Why do certain patterns persist, even when everyone wants things to be different? And what does it take to get things moving?

What drives me

As an organisational psychologist I specialise in professional work culture, psychological safety, leadership development and learning organisations. I help people recognise and break patterns in behaviour and collaboration.

In doing so I look beyond behaviour alone. What looks like a collaboration problem at first sight can just as well come from unclear responsibilities, conflicting expectations or a way of organising that no longer fits. It’s exactly that interplay between people and the organisation that interests me.

How I work

I combine knowledge of psychology and organisations with an appreciative, inquiring approach. I love insights backed by science, and at least as much the creative formats through which people discover, experience and learn for themselves.

And I believe development doesn’t always have to be heavy going. With humour, a surprising exercise or a bit of playfulness you can open up topics that would otherwise be hard to raise. Without losing sight of how serious the issue is.

The best part of my work? When people suddenly see their situation differently, discover what they can change themselves and together take steps that didn’t seem possible before.

Background

Laura is a partner at Leap Company. Since 2017 she has worked as an independent consultant on collaboration issues and organisational development in healthcare, education, IT and business.

Education

  • Master of Science in Psychology (Radboud University)
  • Appreciative Inquiry, foundation and application year (Instituut voor Interventiekunde)
  • Postgraduate programme in Intervention Science (Instituut voor Interventiekunde)
  • Training in positive psychology, including VIA Character Strengths and Psychological Capital (Bureau voor Positieve Psychologie)

Specialisms

Professional work culture · Psychological safety · Leadership development · Learning organisations · Team development · Complex collaboration issues

I’m a fan of

Game elements for loaded topics, metaphors that suddenly make everything clear, getting to the bottom of things (even when everyone else gave up long ago) and that wonderful moment when everything suddenly falls into place.

Portrait of Maarten Glaser

Maarten Glaser

Organisational developer

I love teams that want to, but don’t yet know how. I’m creative, inspiring and innovative, and I bring people together.

I get excited by a management team with a big ambition and no idea yet how to make it happen. Then I find out where the work gets stuck, who still needs to be at the table and which approach will make the difference.

What drives me

I help management teams deliver on their change brief or ambition through vision and strategy work: developing plans, facilitating conversations, bringing stakeholders together and aligning different interests.

I also optimise processes. I analyse how the work is organised now and, with the people who do it, design a renewed way of working, with lean as the basis. Along the way I innovate with AI and technology: for analysis, for apps such as Governance and Leap Trends, and for automating work that is still done by hand.

How I work

I design and run large-scale interventions for big groups, such as hackathons, and smaller formats such as design sprints. I also design and run workshops.

I keep renewing formats and interventions. A format that surprises people often brings a better result than the meeting they already know.

Background

Maarten is a partner at Leap Company. Since 2021 he has worked on organisational change and interim assignments, including for VolkerWessels Telecom, Sanquin, Infradock and Stichting Competens. His clients there included Rijkswaterstaat, Volvo Cars, Nationale-Nederlanden, Kadaster, the Dutch Land Registry, and Bayer Monsanto.

Education

  • ESCI accreditation (Emotional and Social Competency Inventory) (Korn Ferry)

Who we work for

For leaders who see the bigger picture.

Boards, directors and managers in larger organisations who know where the organisation needs to go, and notice that it won’t get there on its own. They have no shortage of ideas, but don’t yet know where to start. What they do know is that one isolated fix won’t be enough: tackle ownership and you also touch leadership and how people develop. And they want someone who stays involved until it works.

These are often issues that no single department can solve alone. Then we work on the same challenge at several levels at once, from the board to the team. What matters to us is the question, not the sector.

What we leave behind

An organisation that makes the next leap on its own.

By the time we leave, the first successes are in. The organisation has a better grasp of what stands in its way, and the people who have to work with it can carry on by themselves, in a way that suits them. We have done our job when the organisation makes that next leap without us. That is the result that counts tomorrow.

Five years from now, the problem we came in for will probably no longer matter. What remains is an organisation that picks up signals earlier, knows when to pause in order to speed up, and understands what the next step will take. It knows where it can carry on alone and when to bring someone in. And when that time comes, we hope it calls us again.

When to go elsewhere

Solutions in 'perfect isolation'.

A course on effective meetings that never asks why the meetings aren’t working. A keynote that inspires everyone, after which everyone goes back to work exactly as before. Or a stand-alone tool for setting up governance. Other firms do that well. Everything we do is part of a change we guide together, and it starts with what you want to achieve.

Take a leap, for a change.

Do you recognise yourself in our values? Then we already have something in common, and that is a good reason to talk. Call or email Laura or Maarten. Or better still, arrange a meeting right away.
